RIP Skip Caray (1939-2008)

I just saw this article that Braves broadcaster Skip Caray has died. While his father Harry Caray was famous for his informal broadcasting style (especially his singing of 'Take Me Out to the Ball Game'), Skip was known for his sarcastic wit in the broadcast booth. He was an excellent announcer---one of the best. He had been having lots of health problems (diabetes, etc.) and was on a reduced broadcast schedule this year.

I got to hear many of the games he was on this year, and he was great. I'm sad that he passed away as I was only beginning to get to listen to him.

This has me feeling down as well. The main reason I got to listen to him so much over the years is that TBS is on everywhere, and I'm glad I got the chance to watch those games. The quality of the announcer makes all the difference in the world and forms a fundamental and (if done well) engaging part of the whole experience. Skip Caray was one of my favorites.
