Googly Eyes

Amazon just sent me an e-mail suggesting that I might be interested in the following items:

* Black & White Wiggly/Wobbly/Googly Eyes 100pk
* Super Bright Wiggle/Wiggly/Wobble Eyes 100pk
* 2 Packs (60 total) Googly Wobbly Stick on Eyes. Art & Crafts
* Sticky Googly Eyes
* 100pk Fluffy Pom-Poms
* 100pk Multi Coloured Pipe Cleaners
* STICKY BACK GOOGLY EYES - 15MM (23PCS)
* OVER 100 BLACK & WHITE WIGGLY WOBBLY GOGGLY EYES CHILDRENS CRAFT EYE PACK

Really, Amazon? WTF?

(Now do you believe me that a lot of research still needs to be done on item recommendation systems?)

In case you're interested, here is what the Super Bright Wiggle/Wiggly/Wobble Eyes look like.

Didn't some of your friends buy Googly Eyes and that's where Amazon took this ide from?

Puck posted it on Facebook before (I had forgotten about this), and I presumably clicked on the link. It would actually make sense for Amazon to link up more actively with sites like Facebook, but I'm pretty sure it's not directly because of that and only directly from it (and directly because I visited the url).

It's a scary thought, Amazon linking up with Facebook and recommending you same things that your friends bought directly

From one perspective, it certainly is. On the other side, it would make these systems more effective. Then there's the third 'side': this will happen; it's only a matter of when.
